[Trendy Seoul] Hannam-dong & Itaewon: Hidden Alley Shopping, K-Beauty, and Global Vibes

Hello, fashionistas and cultural explorers! It’s Bitna.

In our last guide, we explored the massive under-the-street city and K-drama spots at Starfield COEX Mall

Today, we are heading to a neighborhood that offers a completely different kind of "cool." Welcome to Hannam-dong (한남동) and Itaewon (이태원)!

While Gangnam is all about glitzy glass skyscrapers, Hannam-dong is filled with quiet, winding, and artistic brick alleys. It is currently the absolute epicenter for trendy K-beauty, independent Korean fashion labels, and cozy cafes. And just a short walk away lies Itaewon, Seoul’s most multicultural district. Together, they form the perfect day-trip for anyone looking to discover the true, sophisticated style of Seoul.
Let’s explore!

Hannam-dong (한남동) and Itaewon (이태원)

💄 The Mecca of K-Beauty & Fragrance: Hannam-dong
Hannam-dong is where you go to find high-end, aesthetic K-beauty and lifestyle brands that you won't easily find in regular duty-free shops. The stores here look more like modern art galleries than retail shops!
🎒 Bitna's Beauty Hotspots:
  • Tamburins (탬버린즈): Famous for its artistic hand creams and solid perfumes (and endorsed by BLACKPINK's Jennie), this flagship store features stunning, gallery-like interior designs and unique sensory exhibits.
  • Nonfiction (논픽션): If you are looking for clean, aesthetic body care and subtle, nature-inspired signature scents, this beautifully minimalist showroom is a peaceful must-visit.

👗 Shop Like a Local: Trendy Korean Fashion Labels
If you want to dress like a stylish Seoul influencer, the hilly streets of Hannam-dong are lined with the flagship stores of Korea's hottest independent fashion brands.
  • Mardi Mercredi (마르디 메크르디): Instantly recognizable by its iconic, large green floral logo, this brand is a massive hit among international travelers. Expect to see stylish sweatshirts, tees, and tote bags that perfectly capture casual French-Seoul chic.
  • emis (이미스): Famous for its colorful ball caps, hair accessories, and eco-bags frequently worn by K-pop idols, this tiny but packed store is the ultimate place to pick up an affordable, trendy accessory to complete your outfit.

🎬 Step into a K-Drama: The Itaewon Class Vibe
After shopping your way through the quiet alleys of Hannam-dong, walk slightly West to enter the energetic streets of Itaewon.
Itaewon is famous for its global food culture, vintage antique streets, and vibrant international community. But for global travelers, it is most famous as the main setting for the smash-hit Netflix K-drama, Itaewon Class (이태원 클라쓰)!
📸 Capture the Scene:
  • Noksapyeong Footbridge (녹사평육교): Walk up this pedestrian bridge to capture the exact spot where Park Saeroyi (played by Park Seo-joon) stood to look out over the traffic and the glowing Namsan Seoul Tower in the distance. It is one of the most iconic photography spots in the entire city!
  • Gyeongoridang-gil (경리단길): Explore this winding hillside street filled with international restaurants, rooftop bars, and independent craft beer pubs, boasting fantastic sunset views.

💡 Practical Travel Tips from Bitna
  • How to Get There: To start with shopping, take Seoul Subway Line 6 to Hangangjin Station (Exit 3). Walk down the main tree-lined street and turn into the small alleys to begin your Hannam-dong tour. You can naturally walk all the way to Itaewon Station as you follow the paths!
  • Comfortable Shoes are Mandatory: Both Hannam-dong and Itaewon are notoriously hilly with lots of sloping streets and stairs. Leave your high heels at home and wear your best walking sneakers.

Hannam-dong and Itaewon perfectly represent the open-minded, artistic, and globally connected side of modern Seoul. It’s where local creativity meets global cultures, making it an essential stop for any modern traveler.
If you are planning your shopping route, make sure to read my previous guide on [Starfield COEX Mall] to compare the massive underground shopping experience with these charming, open-air alley boutiques!
