[Seoul Day & Night] From Trendy Hanoks to Romantic Street Food Tents

Hello, travel lovers! It’s Bitna again. In my last post, we explored the lovely daytime alleys of Ikseon-dong Hanok Village. But what should you do when the sun goes down?

Today, I’m sharing a perfect Day-to-Night walking itinerary that shows two completely different sides of Seoul. We will start with a hip, aesthetic afternoon in Ikseon-dong and transition into a cinematic, cinematic nighttime at the Nagwon Pojangmacha Street
Best of all? They are right next to each other!

Nagwon Pojangmacha Street

☀️ DAY: Aesthetic Vibes in Ikseon-dong
Start your afternoon around 2:00 PM in Ikseon-dong. This is your time for beautiful photos, cute boutiques, and world-class cafes.
📸 Bitna's Daytime To-Do List:
  • Cafe Hopping: Grab a spot at Cheongsudang for its beautiful bamboo garden or Nakwon Station to take photos on a real indoor railway track.
  • Newtro Shopping: Walk through the narrow alleys and check out vintage accessory shops. You can even try a 10-minute fortune-telling capsule machine!
  • Capture the Pastel Roofs: Look up to see how traditional Korean clay tiles blend with modern glass roofs and neon signs.

🌙 NIGHT: The K-Drama Vibe at Nagwon Pojangmacha Street
As clock strikes 6:00 PM, it’s time for a dramatic shift. Just a 3-minute walk from the exit of Ikseon-dong (near Jongno 3-ga Station, Exit 3, 4, or 6), a magical transformation happens.
Bright orange and yellow plastic tents suddenly pop up along the street under the giant shadow of the Nagwon Music Arcade. Welcome to the Pojangmacha (포장마차) street—affectionately called "Pocha" by locals.
If you have watched any K-dramas, you’ve definitely seen characters coming here after work to share their troubles over a green bottle of Soju.
🥢 What to Expect at a Pocha:
  • The Atmosphere: It’s loud, energetic, and deeply authentic. You’ll sit on plastic stools right next to local office workers.
  • The Food: They serve incredible, comforting street food on small plates.
  • The Rule: Ordering at least one drink (Soju, Beer, or soft drinks) and one food dish per table is a polite local custom!
😋 Bitna’s Top Menu Recommendations:
  1. Gomjangeor (꼼장어 - Spicy Grilled Sea Eel): Chewy, smoky, and spicy. It’s the ultimate pairing with Korean Soju.
  2. Gyeran-mari (계란말이 - Rolled Omelette): A thick, fluffy egg roll usually drizzled with ketchup. Perfect if you can't handle spicy food!
  3. Udong (우동 - Hot Noodle Soup): A steaming bowl of thick noodles in a savory broth. Many pochas will give you a small complimentary bowl of broth when you sit down.

🗺️ Bitna’s Itinerary & Route Map
  • 3:00 PM – 5:30 PM: Arrive via Jongno 3-ga Station (Line 1/3/5). Explore Ikseon-dong cafes and boutiques.
  • 5:30 PM – 6:00 PM: Take sunset photos near the traditional alleys.
  • 6:00 PM Onward: Walk out towards Exit 5 or 6 of Jongno 3-ga Station. Pick a Pojangmacha tent that looks cozy and dive into Seoul's local nightlife!
Seoul is a city that never sleeps, and this route gives you the absolute best of its historical charm and its vibrant, modern street life.
